Drug abuse prevention work continues to be a priority in San Antonio de los Baños. The Community Mental Health Center work to prevent drug addiction. This center is staffed by a team of specialized nurses, psychiatrists, child psychiatrists and psychologists who offer clinical services, including psychotherapy and addiction treatment.
According to psychologist Jennifer Izquierdo, preventive work focuses mainly on young people with dysfunctional families or addicted parents. The specialist also referred to the support of organizations such as the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), which conduct monthly active research, and the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), which provides community family guidance. Families are incorporated into the treatment plan, since they can offer support and help modify behavior, an important element for the integration of the patient back into society.
Jennifer Izquierdo pointed out that the Community Mental Health Center provides individualized consultations that may involve group and/or one-on-one therapy at the center.
