An initiative implemented in San Antonio de los Baños seeks to promote education through the use of mobile devices. Several schools in the territory and the Municipal Directorate of the Computer Youth Clubs carry out a joint activity between instructors and children.
According to Anamey Ladrón de Guevara, principal specialist of the Youth Club 3, the fifth-year-old children of the childcare center ``Semillitas del 2000'' will become familiar with the “Play and learn” application, available on electronic tablets and cell phones.
Children interact with this application, through which they develop different computer skills and others typical of their age, such as selection and comparison. They also identify elements by size and shape and learn how to use different objects in their daily lives, such as clothing, among other aspects.
On October 8, a similar educational activity is planned to be carried out at the Special School April 17 in Ariguanabo, by the instructor of the Youth Club 3, Maridelys Ramírez. The same application will be used as in childcare centers, emphasizing the appropriate skills for children between 9 and 10 years of age.
This experience shows that many children are already familiar in some way with mobile devices, although sometimes the family does not know the type of game and TV exposure time appropriate for each age, which must be regulated to avoid behavioral disorders, social isolation, sedentary lifestyle and vision damage, among others.
